Residential foreclosures in the Pittsburgh region recently fell to their lowest point in nearly eight years, according to a report released today by RealSTATs, a local real estate information service.

Although 750 families lost their homes in the first three months of 2011, it was the lowest number of foreclosures reported in one quarter since the fourth quarter of 2004.

In Allegheny County, the 402 home foreclosures marked the lowest quarterly figure since October-December 2002, when 374 homes were lost. Beaver County saw a sharp increase from 76 in the fourth quarter of 2010 to 127, the highest in the four outlying counties.

Westmoreland County had a sharp decrease from 152 in the last quarter of 2010 to 77 the first quarter of 2011. Home foreclosures increased in Washington County from 83 to 103. Butler, which has not had more than 70 foreclosures in any quarter in the last 12 years, lost 41 homes to foreclosure in the first quarter of 2011.
